Stan Wilmer Obituary

Stan Wilmer gained his angel wings on August 1, 2022, at his home in Bayfield, Colorado. He was 73 years old.

Stan's life would seem too short to many, but those who were blessed to know him understand that his existence and the imprint he left on those he met far exceeds the quantity of time that he stayed here. Stan was a talented and caring person with a unique sense of humor. He was a master of numbers, an avid collector, and a baseball and football coach to many young boys growing up in the Bayfield area. When Stan wasn't working or enjoying time with his family, he could be found in any local store stirring up a conversation with just about anyone, whether he knew them or not. Stan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Not a day went by where Stan didn't talk about how much his children and family meant to him -- his family was arguably his most important achievement in life.

Stan was born in Durango, Colorado on June 27, 1949, and was the 5th generation of the Wilmer family to live in the area. He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl (Haley) Wilmer, his 4 children, Tony (Annie) Wilmer of Westminster, Colorado, Stephanie (George) Villegas of Brighton, Colorado, Jennifer Wilmer of Bayfield, Colorado, and Jon (Meagan) Wilmer of Bayfield, Colorado. Stan also had 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and countless friends. He is also survived by his sisters Susan (Paul) Hilliard, Jay (Becky) Wilmer, Cheryl (Mike) Jorgensen and Becki Pope. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold B. Wilmer, Sr., and Anna Lois (Tubbs) Wilmer, his brother, Harold B. (Shorty) Wilmer Jr, his sister Barbara (Don) Thatcher, and his grandson Andrew Villegas

Services but will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bayfield, Colorado, on August 9, 2022, at 11:00 am, followed by a burial at Bayfield Cemetery.

I have not seen or spoken with Stan for many many years, however I so remember the times we traveled and worked together as young CPA's. Those were great days. He was such a fine man. Condolences to the entire family.

From time to time, I had the good fortune to work with Stan on behalf of a client, his or mine; it was always gratifying because I knew I was working with a straight shooter, Stan told it without artifice or distortion and it made it easy to work things out to the mutual benefit of all involved. May he rest in peace.

My condolences, Cheryl, to you and your family. I did not know Stan that well in high school, but I thought he was a really nice person. It was a joy to read what a wonderful person he was and about the positive impact he had on the world. Sending prayers and hugs.
