Shaylynn Moen Obituary

Durango resident Shaylynn Renee Moen died from complications of breast cancer Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, in Durango. She was a month shy of her 52nd birthday.

Known as "ShayShay," she was born to Donald and Georgia Como on Dec. 23, 1961, in Grand Forks, N.D. She was one of five children.

Gold mining was her primary passion, her family said, and she spent four years mining in Alaska.

She married Bruce Moen, who preceded her in death.

Ms. Moen moved to Durango in 2000, working at the Strater Hotel for eight years.

She enjoyed making jewelry and giving her pieces away as gifts.

"Throughout life, you will meet one person who is unlike any other," her companion, Bill Jackson, said. "You could talk to this person for hours and never get bored, you could tell them things, and they won't judge you. To know her was to love her, and she will forever leave footprints on our hearts."

Ms. Moen is survived by her companion, Bill Jackson of Durango; mother and mother's companion, Georgia Blacksted and Bob Buske, of Wonder Lake, Ill.; brother, Brad Como of Forest Lake, Minn.; sister Megan Bateman of St. Michael, Minn.; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at Olde Tymer's Café. For more information, including time and date, call Bill Jackson at 426-8698.

She was a gentle caring person. Shay and I talked about the soap Young and Restless everyday. Shay was a really good friend of mine and I miss her.
