Max Hilliard Obituary

September 19, 2005 - April 13, 2025

On the day that you were born, the angels got together

And decided to create a dream come true

So they sprinkled moondust in your hair of gold

And starlight in your eyes of green

With profound sorrow and broken hearts, we share the passing of Max Hilliard, who left us far too soon at the age of 19. Born on September 19, 2005, in Concord, North Carolina, Max passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

Max was a remarkable young man-thoughtful, curious, and fiercely determined. He saw the world through a lens of his own, one filled with depth, complexity, and an astute intellect beyond his years. With his flaxen hair, green eyes, and porcelain skin, he was strikingly handsome, but it was his unique spirit and quiet strength that truly set him apart.

He carried within him a vast potential, and though his time with us was far too short, Max left a lasting imprint on all who knew and loved him.

He will be forever missed and deeply mourned by his loving mother, Theresa (Hilliard) DiPonio of Durango; his father, Craig Hilliard of Mancos; and his devoted brother, Jack Hilliard of Durango. Their love for Max is eternal, and his absence leaves a cavern in their hearts that can never be filled.

A memorial service to celebrate Max's life will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 3:00 p.m. at the T. Chase McPherson Memorial Chapel on Rim Drive, on the Fort Lewis College campus. A reception will follow, where family and friends are warmly invited to gather, share memories, and honor the bright light Max brought into the world.

Messages of love and remembrance may be sent to:

1245 Roosa Avenue 1D, Durango, CO 81301.
