Mary Valencia Obituary

Former Ignacio resident Mary Concie Sedelia Romero Valencia died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, in Roswell, N.M. She was 82.

Mrs. Valencia was born to Juan Andres Romero and Adelida Quintana on Nov. 4, 1927, in Falfa on the Florida Mesa. She grew up in the Bondad area, where she met and married Harry M.J. Valencia on June 9, 1945. The marriage ended in 1973 after 28 years.

"She was a loving mother who worked hard all of her life," her family wrote. "She spent the last 20 years with the love of her life, Manuel Reyes, of Roswell."

Mrs. Valencia loved her dogs, knitting and a little gambling on the slot machines.

"She enjoyed being around her family and friends as much as possible," her family wrote. "No matter where she went, she made a friend, and never met a stranger. She lived her life with God and family as the most important."

Mrs. Valencia was preceded in death by her daughters Margaret Esther Valencia and Inez Valencia.

She is survived by her sons Juan Valencia of Ignacio, Dale Joe Valencia of Bayfield and Candido Gallegos of Salt Lake City; daughter Sally Valencia of Ignacio; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, Sept. 2, 2010, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Durango. The Rev. Douglas Hunt will be the celebrant. Burial will take place afterward at Ignacio Cemetery West.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Sally Valencia, P.O. Box 222, Ignacio, CO 81137.
