Mary Sulkosky Obituary

Mary Kathleen Sulkosky passed away on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025 at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction. She was born to Mary and Tom Stone in Mitchell, South Dakota on November 9, 1946. The youngest of seven siblings. She grew up in Pierre South Dakota graduating from Riggs High School in 1964. She married Jerry Sulkosky in August of 1965. Upon his discharge from the Air Force in 1968 they moved to Phoenix, AZ. There, she cared for their two sons Michael and Brian, and cared for the household. When the boys became older she went to work as a teacher's assistant. In 1999 the couple moved to Durango where she owned a gift shop. After that she was employed in the La Plata County Purchasing Department from which she retired in 2012. Retirement years were spent traveling and camping with her husband Jerry. Jewelry making was her hobby. An ardent animal lover she served for a period on the board for the La Plata County Humane Society. She is survived by her husband Jerry, son Michael, brother John and sister Rosalie. She loved deeply and is deeply loved and missed. Donations may be made in her name to the La Plata County Humane Society. Plans for a memorial will be announced.

I was fortunate to see Mary K and Jerry this past September in Pierre. I thought of her more as a sister than an aunt. She was a wonderful person and will be deeply missed.
