Mary Gurule Obituary

Pagosa Springs resident Mary Ofelia Gurule died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver. She was 75.

Mrs. Gurule was born to Cresencio and Deliria Gonzales on June 8, 1939, in Dulce, New Mexico. She and her three siblings were all born in Dulce.

She met and married the man her family called the "love of her life," Jose F. Gurule in Pagosa Springs.

Mrs. Gurule raised three children and greatly enjoyed her grandchild and her great-grandchildren, her family said. She enjoyed reading, traveling and cooking for her family.

Mrs. Gurule was active at Immaculate Heart of Mary and then Pope John Paul II Catholic churches in Pagosa.

Mrs. Gurule was preceded in death by her husband, Jose F. Gurule.

She is survived by her children Lorraine Gurule of Pagosa Springs, Sedrick Gurule of Farmington and Pressie Gurule of Prescott Valley, Arizona; brother Joe Gonzales of Billings, Montana; one grandson; two great-grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church, 353 . Pagosa Blvd., in Pagosa Springs. Burial will take place at Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield at 2 p.m.
