Mary Benton Obituary

Mary Ellen Benton was born on June 4,1927 in a farm house north of Bayfield to Howard Davis Gibbs & Anna Foster Gibbs. Mary graduated from Durango High School in 1944 and married Cecil Francis Benton on March 9,1947. They raised 5 children, Mary worked at Mountain Bell as a telephone operator until she retired in 1982. She & Cecil traveled extensively visiting 9 countries. They summered in Durango & wintered in Ajo, Az. Mary was a loving mother and wife, she had a great sense of humor & she touched everyone who met her. She had deep faith in God and on September 30, 2016 she made her journey to be with him. Mary is preceded in death by her sister Joann Bonds, her daughter Donna James & her son Howard Benton. She is survived by her husband of 69 years Cecil Benton, sister Martha McCoy, brother Donald Gibbs, daughters Charlene Goff, Deborah Whitley, Carol Melcher, 5 grand children, 3 great grand children & many nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the The Florida Mesa Presbyterian Church. There will be a buffet following the services. In lieu of flowers, Mary has requested donations be made to the Florida Mesa Presbyterian Church.

Cecil, we have fond memories of the many times we spent with you and Mary. She was a very special person. I know she suffered for a long time, but is now free of that and is with the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven.
