Lavern Martin Obituary

Pagosa Springs resident Lavern Harold Martin died of pneumonia and emphysema Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, in Durango. He turned 61 five days earlier.

Known as "Harry," he was born to Dairl and Dorothy Martin on Dec. 13, 1952, in Denver. He attended high school in Napa, Calif.

Mr. Martin was an over-the-road trucker all his life.

On Dec. 31, 1974, he married Janet "Dolly" Vukelich in Walsenburg.

The Martins moved to Pagosa Springs in 1999.

"He loved listening and teaching his family the beauty of music," according to his family. "He was a true boxing fan, and he loved fishing."

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Dolly Martin, in July 2013; and daughter Unity Serene Sjoblom.

He is survived by his sons Leon Martin of Durango and Justin Martin of Bayfield; daughters Allynda Casterton of Mesa, Ariz., and Faith Heck of Eau Claire, Wis.; brothers Dairl Martin and David Martin, both of Eau Claire, and Darren "Butch" Martin of Portland, Ore.; sisters Linda Martin of Eau Claire, MaryAnn Berg of Altoona, Wis., and Annamarie Govin of Elk Mound, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.

A service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at Pagosa Springs Funeral Home, 141 N. 14th St.
