Katie Barrett Obituary

Katie O'Hara Barrett passed away on December 12, 2025, with her husband Jim, of almost 40 years, by her side, in their winter home of Tucson, Arizona.

Katie was born June 14th, 1955, to Donald and Helen O'Hara in Niagara Falls, NY. She was the 3rd oldest of the 8 O'Hara sisters. She graduated from Fredonia State with a major in Radio & TV.

After college she (and her free spirit) toured the country on her motorcycle, in which she found her niche in Durango, Colorado. This is where she met the love of her life, Jim Barrett, and called home for the rest of her life. They married in 1986 and in 1987 welcomed a daughter Meghan O'Hara Barrett.

Her favorite thing to do was to be cooking or baking in the kitchen. This is how the recipes of O'Hara's Jams & Jellies began. She owned and operated this business for 25 years. After the business sold in 2018, she spent most of her time in her garden or with her grandchildren.

Katie is survived by her husband Jim, daughter Meghan Crego (Cody), granddaughter Madelyn Crego, grandson Colton Crego. Her sisters: Mary Margaret O'Hara, Maureen Ingham (Jim), Julie Goodman (Jim), Jane Bator, Christine O'Hara (Ken), Connie Callea (Phil). As well as numerous Nieces, Nephews, and members of the O'Hara and Barrett families.

She is preceded in death by: her parents Donald and Helen O'Hara, sister Bridget O'Hara, and Brother-In-Law Ed Bator.

Katie's wishes were to have 2 Catholic masses. The first mass will be held on January 31st, 2026 at 10am in Durango, CO at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. There will be a rosary at 9:30. The 2nd mass will be June 13th, 2026 at 10am in Lewiston, NY at St. Peters Roman Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests you to donate to your favorite charity, in memory of Katie.
