Kirk was my best friend growing up when he lived in Evergreen Co. It was almost like destiny that he chose the same college as I and I was blessed to be able to renew our friendship. Kirk was one of the kindest people I ever knew and had a zest for life that inspires me to this day. To know he is now with our father (God) is all I need to know. See you on the other side Kirk. I love you.

I am deeply sadden by the news of Kirk's death. He was one of the first friends I made when I moved to Durango. He will be remembered as a kind hearted man. May God heal the hearts he leaves behind.
Friends hanging around.

Kirk was a friendly face at Cuckoo's. It was always a pleasure to talk with him. He fought a long hard battle, which I'm happy has ended. He was a great inspiration to me and I'll miss seeing him. Kim

I'm truly sorry about Kirk's passing. I worked with Kirk at the La Plata County Sheriff's Office in the 90's and early 2000's. He was a kind and compassionate man and Deputy Sheriff. I loved working with Kirk. He was a top notch cop with integrity and good ethics. He was never quick to anger; he never judged others; and most importantly, he was a man with a wonderful outlook on life. He loved to listen to other people and engage in good conversations. RIP my friend. I hope your family finds peace and comfort. Tom Cowing, Sgt. Investigator - La Plata County Sheriff's

Kirk has been one of my closest friends since we met at St John's Lutheran school in Chester. He had such a loving heart. I loved hearing all about his adventures in life and his dreams for how he wanted to make the world better. He always pushed himself to excel. Madelyn was his whole world. So many hours were spent in conversation about how proud he was of her and how much he wanted for her future. It was such a joy to get to visit with Kirk and Madelyn in Colorado and enjoy seeing some of his favorite places in nature. I miss him so much, but am so glad he is at peace now. Take care my friend.

I remember Kirk from my days working at Fort Lewis College. He had many talents and was kind and always had good words to say about everyone. He worked in the Housing Office and helped a lot of students. Later, I reconnected with him, he was so proud of being a father and his outlook on life remains an inspiration to me. He will be missed.

It was my privilege to know and work alongside Kirk for several years. His kind serving of others and strong sense of right and the desire to do it, will always be in my memories of him. He fought the cancer with the diligence of a Ranger or Seal. Losing him is exactly that-- loss. The eventual reunion 'on the other side' will be wonderful, though.

Didn't know Kirk , just a friendly hello as he shopped at city market, where I work.....but he had this wholesome gentleness about him that always brightened my day ....his love and kindness will not only be missed by this family and friends but many others...a great loss........deborah

Kirk was a beautiful, intelligent and curious soul. He delighted in trying anything out of doors and taught my son to shoot Madalyn's old bow and arrow. He helped us on our farm in the county and only wanted to sit and talk with family as the return favor (well, and a good meal was never turned down!). I went to Kenya, Africa on Safari with Kirk in 1992. We laughed and shared photos while completely immersing ourselves in the very notion of being there in Africa. It is Kirk's presence that I know I feel when I feel when I breathe fresh air or feel water or feel a warm rock to sit on. God Bless him, his daughter and his mom and her pet Dove and all of the rest of his family. We love you Kirk. Tonya, Cooper and Kahler family.

I have not seen Kirk in many years, but remember him to be a great man, friendly, honest, a very good person. He was a good cop, and cared about all those around him. My condolences to his family.
