Jonathan Bedor Obituary

Jonathan Shane Bedor died on January 8, 2025, in Aurora, Colorado. Jonathan was born November 17, 1982, in Denver, Colorado and was adopted by his parents, Wayne and Donna Bedor on December 7, 1982, in Aurora, Colorado. He was a member of the Mandan-Hidatsa Tribe of North Dakota. Moving with his family, Jonathan lived in: Aurora, Colorado; Weilerbach, Germany; and Colorado Springs before moving to Durango in 1989. Jonathan attended Durango 9-R schools until his graduation from Durango HS in 2001. While growing up, Jonathan enjoyed the usual childhood activities offered in Durango including soccer, baseball, biking, kayaking, camping and skiing and taught younger children skiing for several seasons at Purgatory Resort. He was an accomplished skier and ski instructor. He was employed in food service and other hospitality work during his working years. Jonathan was a generous and loving person and was known to sometimes invite homeless people to live with him temporarily. Jonathan struggled with addiction for much of his adult life but recently appeared to get past this struggle by completing a peer counseling specialist program that would allow him to assist others who were dealing with addiction. Jonathan was dearly loved by his family and will be sorely missed. Jonathan was predeceased by his mother, Donna Bedor, and is survived by his father, Wayne and stepmother, Gayle, of Durango, stepbrother Jeff and wife, Jenny Vierling of Durango, stepsister, Janet Vierling, of Aurora, Colorado, uncle, Gary Bedor, and wife, Marie, of Ellington, Connecticut, and uncle, Robert, and wife, Rondi, of Blue Bell Pennsylvania. He is also survived by numerous cousins and aunts and uncles in the northeast and northwest. Services will be announced at a future date.

Jonathan was one of my favorite soccer athletes that I coached for several years. On the field, he had grit, determination, and contributed to his team with his skills and toughness. Off the field, he was so different, in that he had a perpetual, warm and wonderful smile, and a kind disposition for all of us. I feel that I was so lucky to have felt his kindness and to have coached him. I'm proud to also know of the dedication that his provided, and who loved him so much, We'll miss you, and thanks for your memory, Jonathan!

I grew up in school and in church with Jon. We took our first communion together at St Columbus Church in Durango. He was very talented and always had a supportive and kind heart. Condolences to his family during this time.

Jon was my first boyfriend in 6th grade, a talented skiing buddy who continually changed me to "go bigger," and an individual who touched the lives of anyone he met. I've never laughed as hard as I have with him, nor have I encountered a person who was as open-minded and non-judgmental, even to his own detriment sometimes. I proudly call Jon my friend--one of the best--and will hopefully get the honor again one day.
