Dear Kay and Don,
Your dad was our "leader". Band was such an integral part of our Junior High and High School experience in Durango in the 60s.
Your dad also talked me into refinishing a piano in the 80s. It took me an entire summer but I finally finished it. He was a patient, talented, and wonderful teacher and most of all a good man. You were lucky. Enjoy your memories of your parents.
In His peace,
John Watters

Don & Kay. DHS Class of '61 just had its 55th Reunion in Durango last week. So many band "kids" were there...all with fond memories of your Dad and Mom. Will be thinking of you all on the 22nd of September when memorial service is held. Will pipe the occasion here in Sheridan that day; and, hope that many other Pipers and Drummers will be on site in "The Springs" then to join-in. With sympathy and the deepest respect. Bob Wyatt (former Drum Major at DHS...and honored also to have piped with Gene)

Mr. Money was my band teacher at Durango HS throughout my high school years in the mid-1960s. He was a truly great educator. Not once did I ever witness him being mean nor impatient with any student and that was with a high school band of probably 100 teenagers each armed with a horn, drum, drumstick, etc. Yet,each day, everyone of us, played the best music we could for Mr. Moeny.
Thanks to Mr. Moeny, the DHS band won several awards during that time. We were also invited to march and play in the Portland Rose Parade.
The DHS Class of 1966 just had its 50th Reunion. At the Reunion, Mr. Moeny was remembered with enormous love by his band .......even after half a century.
