Dorothy Bass Obituary

After enjoying a wonderful celebration of life and friendship, Dottie passed away peacefully on September 12, 2018 at Mercy Hospice House in Durango, CO. Dottie was born January 17, 1943 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Albuquerque to Elvin "Johnnie" and Ruth Virginia Bass. Dottie's father was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas during WWII. Dottie graduated from Highland High in Albuquerque and received a BA in Home Economics from the University of New Mexico in 1965. Dottie worked for Farmers Home Administration (USDA) and Housing and Urban Development for almost 30 years and was an advocate for appropriate housing for all. Dottie lived in Albuquerque, Los Lunas and Taos before moving to Bayfield, Colorado in 2001. Dottie's circle of friends in Texas, New Mexico and Colorado are amazing! Dottie was a wonderful neighbor and friend to all who knew her. Her kindness and compassion will always be remembered. Dottie cherished all of her animal companions; they brought her such joy. Her sweet Ozzie continued to snuggle with her regularly at Mercy Hospice House. Zoe, Max, Poppy and Okie will be buried with her. Dottie will be laid to rest with her parents and grandparents at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque, NM on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 9:30am. Pat Sheafe:Jefferson Junior High 1956-1958 also as young grownups on first

We were classmates @ Jefferson and when my folks wanted to have a birthday party for me, Dottie's dad volunteered the club property in the mountains and we had boys and girls. My father was a big hit because he let the boys drive our car once we were out on that property. The guy who was related to the French mortuary family was also in our class. I moved back to WA state but was hired by APS and taught at Five Points. Dottie helped me move to the Gold Street Pueblo style apartments just north of University using her pick up truck. All the accolades in previous comments were 100% true and because once I was hired by DOD to teach then married an air force guy we lost touch because of many many moves Numerous times( before the internet I I tried to track her down, no luck until today 2023 (she would be 80 as am I) She was truly one of a kind friend and over these last 54 years I have thought of her and her kindness often. May she rest in peace, Pat Sheafe

We rented Dottie's home while building ours in Forest Lakes. During the Missionary Ridge Fire evacuation in 2002, she offered her home to us that she recently moved into. She was an active member of the Upper Pine Fire Auxiliary and always ready to lend a helping hand. She loved animals and was a wonderful friend. She made sure her animals were taken care of knowing she wouldn't be able to care for them much longer.

Dottie, I didn't know you for long, but I will always remember you and your sweet, kind, compassion. Although I didn't get to meet you in person, I enjoyed our long distance phone conversations and emails. You gave me support and encouragement when I needed it most, and although our friendship was short I'm truly blessed to have known you. May you Rest In Peace, I'm sure Jeremiah was there to greet you in heaven. You will be missed, but I have peace knowing you are now in the loving arms of your Savior Jesus. Thank you for your love, friendship and grace from afar.
