Daryl Welch Obituary

Durango resident Daryl Edwin Welch died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at his home. He was 63.

Known as "Eddie," he was born to Daryl and Irene Welch on Feb. 17, 1950, in Hillsboro, Texas. He grew up in Hillsboro and moved to Durango in 1988 with his sister, Cynthia King, and nephew, Christopher King.

Mr. Welch worked at various places in Durango such as the College Plaza Laundry and Bank of Colorado.

He participated in swimming, track and field and volleyball with the Special Olympics. He loved to bowl and also enjoyed whitewater rafting and horseback riding.

"Eddie even carried the Olympic torch for a small segment in Durango," according to his family. "Eddie adored Elvis Presley and enjoyed his trip to Graceland very much."

Mr. Welch is survived by his sister, Cynthia King, of Durango; and one nephew.

Cremation will occur, with burial of the ashes in Hillsboro. A reception will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. today, Jan. 14, 2014, at the Life Church, 699 Bayfield Parkway. Guests are invited to bring finger foods.
