Beverly Darmour Obituary

In Memoriam

In loving memory of Beverly Neal Darmour, who would have celebrated her 102nd birthday on March 24. She is remembered today for her legacy of hard work, volunteerism, and civic engagement in the Durango community. After retirement, she taught a class in poetry for Sunshine Gardens, read aloud with children in the Head Start program, and, along with her second husband Mike Darmour and several others, was instrumental in helping to start Hospice, Meals on Wheels, and the Community Thanksgiving dinner in Durango. A lifelong lover of language, reading, and books, Beverly was a member of the Durango Public Library Board that oversaw the site selection and construction of the new library building. She also loved her volunteer job at the Methodist Thrift Store, where she sorted donations; when her shift there was over, she and her friend Marj enjoyed a cheeseburger and a glass of wine at Olde Tymer's Cafe. She was a lector and a long-time member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where her ashes are interred in the St. Mark's columbarium. Happy birthday, Web!

Earlier today

I had the pleasure of working with Bev at Durango Orthopedics for many years. Those who were lucky enough to know her will never forget her.
I still hold in my heart the advice she gave to me on life and faith.
Mike baptised our twin boys in 1987 in the La Plata river near Kline, CO.
I remember decorating their car when they ''remarried"!
She is a treasure that I truly hope to see again someday in the heavens.

Earlier today

Beverly was my neighbor when I was growing up. She made a lasting impression on me. I wanted to be like her. While I did not come close to being like her, I am grateful for her mentoring, and her gift of friendship. She made our world a much better place.
