Anna Alires Obituary

Anna Mae Todae Alires passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025 at Valley Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mancos, Colorado. Anna was born on May 2, 1931 in Shiprock, New Mexico to Chee and Glenna Todae. Unfortunately, her mother died in childbirth. Anna was raised in foster care by Thelma Kelm who was a nun and a nurse at San Juan mission in Farmington, New Mexico. She spent her young life in boarding school, mostly in St. Michaels in Arizona. When she reached high school age she attended the Ute Vocational School in Ignacio, Colorado. She made many friends there. After high school she attended Ft. Lewis College in Hesperus, where she received her certificate in secretarial science. She loved the Ignacio area so much that she made it her permanent home. She worked for BIA Southern Ute Agency and gave 35 years of service. She was also a police dispatcher with the Southern Ute Indian Police Department for many years. She had many loving and fond memories of her coworkers. She was also a member of the original ambulance crew as an EMT. She also served the SUCAP board during that time. She had a daughter, Katherine Ann Scott with her first husband Herbert Scott. She later married Tommy Alires with whom she had three sons, Terry, Gary (Jennifer) and Christopher (Jeanette). She is survived by all of her children and her grandchildren: Nicholas Groves, April Lopez, Rachel Alires, Sarah Alires-Ortiz, Jeremy Alires, Olivia Alires, Shaniqua Alires, Chrissy Alires, Xeviera Alires, Brianna, Keifer, and Keiston GoodTracks Alires and Dominick GoodTracks. She was preceded in death by brothers Arthur Todae and Chester Todae, sister Rose Marie Shorty, and grandsons Donavon Lopez, Francisco Lopez, and Carlos Alires. Cremation will take place at Hood Mortuary and her cremains will be buried at a later date.
