Marilyn Martin Obituary

Marilyn A. Seidl Martin, age 84, of Erie, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026.

She was born in Erie on March 21, 1941 a daughter of the late Joseph and Loretta Jones Seidl.

From a young age, it was obvious Marilyn was different from her peers. No one could match her witty humor or her unwavering kindness. Marilyn spent much of her childhood surrounded by beloved animals, a love that lasted throughout her life and helped strengthen her caring nature. She was known to celebrate the small things, and could be found rocking out to Elvis, roller-skating with her girlfriends, or enjoying a cigarette on the porch while watching her family play in the cornfields. Her bright energy and silly personality were a beacon of light in a harsh world. She was a strong-willed woman who knew what she wanted and made it known what she didn't. Marilyn wasn't afraid to stand out from the crowd or speak up for what she believed in. She valued being open-minded and treating others with compassion, and wouldn't play nice with people who didn't.

In her later years, Marilyn continued to spread joy by dancing to Elvis with her roommate Linda and aide Chrissy, guessing black-and-white movie stars with her granddaughter Nicole, playing Go Fish with grandson Wyatt, and indulging in KFC with her daughter Trish. In Marilyn's final days, she remained a true vision of strength, love, laughter, and faith. Her resilience and warmth will continue to guide others in times of need. The deep loss of Marilyn will stay with us until we meet again. I love you, Grandma. You were the greatest woman I've ever known. Elvis Presley's "Return to Sender" will forever hold a new meaning for the Martin family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Martin, a daughter, Colleen McGuire, a son, Norman Martin, and a granddaughter, Allison Gunther.

She is survived by a daughter Trish Gunther (Karl), a son, Robert Martin, a brother, Donald Seidl, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Marilyn will be especially missed by grandchildren Nicole Gunther, Ryan Gunther and Colin Gunther, as well as additional family members Nicole Moyak and Wyatt Carter.
