Jimmy Lipscomb
Jimmy Lipscomb, age 74, of Shorewood, IL, formerly of Kankakee, IL, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL.
He was born on November 24, 1951, in Gainesville, GA, to Willie Mae (Jackson) and Demory Lipscomb, Sr. Jimmy graduated from Gainesville High School and enrolled into North Georgia College, known as "The Military College of Georgia." There he earned a Bachelor's Degree. After graduation, he honorably served his country in the US Army. Jimmy received his Master's Degree from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL.
Jimmy built a distinguished and diverse professional career marked by dedication and service. He worked for IBM, served as a store manager for JCPenney, and shared his passion for knowledge as a Business Professor at Kankakee Community College. He also devoted time as a substitute teacher in the Joliet school district, before concluding his career as a realtor with Coldwell Banker in Joliet.
He was a devoted volunteer for Sacred Heart Church Community Soup Kitchen for ten years or more. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and faithfully attended the men's bible study group at Victory City Church.
He was an avid reader, whose love of learning earned him the affectionate reputation of being an "expert on everything." As man of faith, Jimmy enjoyed watching biblical programs daily. Jimmy and Jacqui shared their passion for the love of music, often debating about their favorite artists. Jimmy enjoyed a life-long passion for watching and playing sports, with baseball being his favorite game.
Jimmy is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Jacqueline (Lake) Lipscomb; his loving children, Bridget Renee Lipscomb and Harold S. (Dionne) Jones, Jr.; his beloved grandchildren, Gabriel, Aaron, and Lucas Jones, Markus and Brinden Green, Thomas and Pam Eichelberger; and his adored great-granddaughter, Nala Green. He is also survived by sisters, Annette (Dr. Everett) Flanigan and Melinda Young; brothers, Lawrence Lipscomb and Demory (Deborah) Lipscomb, Jr.; his special aunt, Ruby Lipscomb; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bufford and Barbara (Col. Roosevelt) Speed; his brothers-in-law, Gerald and Devon (Kristy) Lake; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his "Brothers from another Mother:" Mr. Mack Lyons III; Willie C. McCarty; Walter Harris, Jr.; Gordon O'Neil; Otha Carpenter; Al Strickland; Donald Somerville; Flake T. Hudson; Francisco and Adrian Perede.
Visitation for Jimmy Lipscomb will be Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL. Additional visitation will be Friday, March 6, 2026 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
