Edward Hughes Obituary

Hughes, Edward J. of Lowell, passed away on February 14, 2026. He was 73 years old.

Born in Boston in 1952, he was the son of the late Edward and Barbara (Nelson) Hughes.

Ed will be remembered as someone who was always good for a laugh — a natural jokester who brought humor into everyday moments. Easy-going by nature yet tough when it mattered most. A proud United States Air Force veteran, he honorably served from 1971 to 1974, a chapter of his life he held with deep pride. Some of his most cherished times were spent on Boy Scout trips with his sons and traveling for their sporting events. Those who knew him will remember his spirit, his laughter, and the lasting impression he made through both his service and the time he shared with others.

Father to Christopher D. Hughes and his wife Daniele of Whitman and Shaun Hughes and his wife Tabetha of Brockton. Grandfather to Bailey, Gaige, Tallyn, Grace, Brenna, and Nikolas. Brother to Bob Hughes and his wife Pam of Halifax, the late Barbara Burns. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Saturday, March 14, 2026 from 2-4 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward's name may be made to Jimmy Fund, 1309 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA 02446.
