Velma (Jagger) Grogan, 88, of Heritage Pointe in
Warren, Indiana passed away on March 12, 2026. Known for her engaging personality, fun-loving spirit, and lively sense of humor, Velma was born on a farm outside
Camden, Michigan to Harry and Mary Jagger on March 23, 1937. A twin, she was the youngest of five siblings. From an early age, Velma loved reading and first attended school in a one-room schoolhouse whose students consisted mostly of her siblings and cousins. She graduated from Camden-Frontier HighSchool with the following caption under her senior picture, "Live wires never get stepped on."
Velma earned a bachelor's degree in education from Huntington College where she met and married Orin Grogan. She started teaching at age 19 and found her passion as the kindergarten teacher at Converse Elementary School for more than two decades. Her love of children and teaching extended beyond the classroom. For many summers, she and Orin were the unofficial parents of the staff at Oakwood Park in Syracuse, Indiana. She taught Sunday school, worked in the church nursery, and delighted her many nieces and nephews by making Christmas ornaments with them. Her handmade ornaments can still be found hanging on the Christmas trees of numerous family members.
Velma is survived by daughters Gwen and Glenda who will miss her fun and caring spirit. Twin sister Thelma Trueman, brothers Albert and Norman (wife Kay) Jagger, brother-in-law Duane Baughman and many beloved nieces and nephews and their children survive. She was preceded in death by her husband Orin, who she cared for throughout his lengthy battlewith Parkinson's disease. Velma was also preceded in death by her parents, sister Kathryn Baughman, sister-in-law Dorothy Jagger, and brother-in-law Donald Trueman.
Services will take place at Heritage Pointe in Warren on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a celebration of life officiated by Pastor Brian Baughman. Velma will be laid to rest at Gardens of Memory in Marion, Indiana at a later date.

Warren, Indiana 46792. Gwen and Glenda express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Heritage Pointe and most especially to the staff of 1B, AAL, and the activities department who have so lovingly cared for Velma throughout her journey with dementia.
