Ron K. Hoagland (Captain Ron), 72, left us on March 6, 2026, in St. Joseph, MO where he was born on July 7, 1953, to Robert (Bob) and Elsie Hoagland.
Ron loved spending time at his river cabin, flying his Cessna 172, and was a sportsman who loved duck hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. One of his greatest joys and achievements was elevating his riverside cabin above the floodwaters of the Missouri. He was an electrical lineman for Light & Power and various electrical contractors including the Hurricane Hugo recovery in St. Croix, V.I. Ron also served as a C-130 refueler in the Missouri Air National Guard in the early 1970s.
Ron married his best friend Kathy on July 12, 1997. In all things, they shared their life together as one. Ron leaves behind his wife Kathy Hoagland, daughter Sara Hart (who will miss the twinkle in his eye), granddaughters Annie and Kate Hart, nephew Jeff Hoagland, sister-in-law Ilene, and many Harmon-family nieces and nephews. Also missing him are his beloved cats Alice, Skittles, Spooky, and Hot Cakes. Ron was preceded in death by his older brother Roger.
A graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, March 12th at High Creek Cemetery in Watson, MO. All friends and family are welcome. The High Creek Chapel will be open, beginning at noon, for anyone wishing to gather ahead of the service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to High Creek Cemetery or M’Shoogy’s Animal Rescue in Savannah, MO.

Ron was my cousin. We spent many 4th of July’s together— our families. Seems after my family moved to Texas- many years ago, we lost touch with each other. Wishing God’s peace & comfort to his family. See you again, Cuz.

Although I did not know him well in high school, he fixed the muffler on my big boat of a car and wouldn’t accept anything for doing so. His kindness always stayed with me. I am sorry for your family’s loss.
