Lota Rosamond Weichsel (1938–2025)
PARK CITY, UT - Lota Weichsel, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025. A woman of grace, hard work, and deep family devotion, Lota's journey took her from the farms of Mississippi to the shores of Connecticut and finally to the mountains of Utah.
Born on September 22, 1938, in
Louisville, Mississippi, Lota was the 13th of 15 children born to Henderson and Clara Luke Rosamond. Her early years were defined by the rigors of farm life.
Her natural poise led her to local beauty pageants; in 1954, she served as the Forestry Princess of Winston County. In 1957, she made history as the state's first Mississippi Dairy Princess, representing her home state in the national competition in Chicago. An athlete as well as a queen, she also loved playing basketball alongside her sisters for Winston County.
Seeking new horizons, Lota moved to Birmingham, Alabama. It was there that she met Harry Weichsel, who was stationed at Redstone Arsenal. They married on Christmas Day in 1958 and relocated to Connecticut, where they raised their family in Easton.
In her later years, Lota moved to
Park City, Utah, to be near two of her daughters and grandchildren. Throughout her life, Lota enjoyed a successful career in retail. She was a gifted communicator who viewed her customers not just as patrons, but as friends.
Lota is survived by her three daughters: Lauren Belot (Joe), Donna Allen and Caron Keim Murray (Kevin).
She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Tanner and Lexi Keim, Luke Allen, Grace and Gillian Finn, and Jake Belot; as well as her siblings Joseph Rosamond and Elaine Hayes, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and twelve of her siblings: Juaquin, Carolyn, Peggy, Margaret, Sandra, Rachel, Dorothy, Guy, Forest Luke, Eugene, Benjamin, and Glenn.
A celebration of Lota's life will be held in the spring of 2026 in
Park City, Utah.
