Leona Mary Schiller, age 89, of
Wadena, MN, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, at Good Samaritan Care Center in
Battle Lake, MN.
Leona was born on March 29, 1936, to Edward and Anna (Meisinger) Bushinger at their home in Leaf River Township and grew up near Blue Grass, MN. She attended country school near her home and was a Wadena High School graduate.
On October 30, 1956, Leona was united in marriage to Roger Schiller. They settled near Wadena, where they raised their family of four children. Leona worked at the Woolworth Department Store until its closure in 1976, after which she became actively involved in managing the family's dairy farm. She and Roger retired from farming in 1988.
Following retirement, Leona and Roger built a home on acreage retained from the original farmstead. She found great joy in watching wildlife from her front window, hosting family gatherings, and relaxing in the evenings with a good Hallmark movie. Christmas Day was especially dear to Leona, when her children and their families filled the home with laughter, food, conversation, and cherished traditions. She also enjoyed baking, collecting ceramic dolls, the time spent with friends and neighbors during their monthly 'get together' for lunch or dinner, traveling with family and friends, and attending the Minnesota State Fair.
Leona is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Roger; their children Cindy (Jerry) Rogholt of Battle Lake, Sue (Bob) Ohrmundt of Wadena, Mike (Janell) Schiller of Rice, and Steve (Brenda) Schiller of Wadena; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; brother Edwin (Carol) Bushinger; sister Anne Rigsby; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Preceding Leona in death were her parents; brothers Ernest Bushinger and Albert Bushinger and their wives, Delores and Sandy, respectively; and brother-in-law, James Rigsby.
Active pallbearers will be Justin Resch, Danny Ohrmundt, Ryan Ohrmundt, Aaron Schiller, Aaron Wegscheid, Joe Martelle, Daniel Polanco, Tom Heidemann, and Josh Jopp.
Leona's family extends heartfelt gratitude to Lakewood Health System in Staples, MN, for the compassionate care she received while in the hospital and care center rehabilitation wing.
