Katherine Mullaney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home - East Louisville on Feb. 28, 2026.
Katherine "Katie" Maureen Mullaney, 43, passed away at home on February 26, 2026, surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Greg; her children Lucy, Charlie, and Elizabeth; parents Ann and John Duerr; sister Kelly (Billy) Hendriksen; in-laws Debby and Mike Mullaney; sisters-in-law Lisa (Chris) McCarthy, Lori (Brian) Finch; brother-in-law Tim (Caroline) Mullaney; nieces Emily, Sarah, Maggie, Anna, Kate, Amelia; nephew Luke; and many dear friends.

Born and raised in Louisville, Katie graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 2001. She went on to attend Georgetown University, class of 2005, where she met and fell in love with Greg, and obtained a Master's Degree in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University, class of 2008. She spent her summers in the mountains of North Carolina at Camp Greystone with her sister and many cherished friends.

Those lucky enough to have had Katie in their lives will remember and celebrate her as the best wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Katie navigated her journey with breast cancer with grace and unwavering faith. She had an infectious smile and a calm and loving presence.

Katie truly cherished nothing more than spending time with Greg, her children, and their sweet Goldendoodle Bob. She made the mundane special and worked tirelessly to ensure that Lucy, Charlie, and Elizabeth were free to just be kids in the midst of her ongoing treatments.

Katie was a champion for research for metastatic breast cancer. She was a leading fundraiser for Hope Scarves, which supports people facing all types of cancer through scarves, stories, and research. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Scarves in Katie's memory. https://hopescarves.org/donate/

Katie's entire family would like to thank all of the medical teams at Norton Hospital, M.D. Anderson Cancer Institute, Sarah Cannon Research Institute, and Hosparus Health for their dedicated care of Katie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The family will receive visitors in the Church vestibule prior to the Mass from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.. Following the Mass, the Rite of Committal will take place at Cave Hill Cemetery.

Thinking of you in this difficult time of loss and asking God to tenderly care for you and your children needs. Though no words can hurry what you are going through. With sympathy and caring prayers for you and your family.Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4 Thinking of you. Ellen Brand
