Mr. Jimmy Wayne Mynard died in
Crestview, Florida on February 15, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends at the age of seventy-eight, where he was greeted into the loving embrace and presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jimmy is survived by his son, Ryan Mynard (Rusti); daughter Blake Sparks; grandchildren, Brent Mynard, Halle Mynard, and Cecilia Sparks; his sister, Dorothy Abercrombie; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Janet Wright Mynard, his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, and his parents Clem and Jeanette Mynard.
Jimmy was born on August 30, 1947, in
Enterprise, Alabama. He graduated from Enterprise High School in 1965 and attended Auburn University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in business and finance in 1969. He started his career at Van Heusen in
Hartford, AL where he met his future wife, Janet. After their marriage, he began a career as an accountant with Louisiana Pacific and worked for them in Eufaula, Alabama, Clayton, Alabama, and later transferred to Baker, Florida. After leaving LP, he spent the remainder of his career as an accountant for QCI/QMS.
Jimmy was an extrovert and a friend to all. He knew no stranger and his incredible quick wit and great sense of humor always kept people laughing. He loved to talk and tell stories. His favorite topics were stories about his life growing up in south Alabama, and stories about his children and grandchildren. While the truth was always flexible when it came to his story telling, his enthusiasm and charm captivated his audience.
It was not just his quick wit, but his true intelligence that impressed people. His knowledge covered a wide variety of subjects which was used during his daily armchair Jeopardy viewing. His family always said he had a "plethora of useless information."
Most of all, Jimmy loved sports. His heart belonged to the Auburn Tigers, and he loved watching the Crestview High School Bulldogs in all seasons and all sports. He was also a big fan of the Cincinnati Reds.
He spent many years coaching city league sports. He also served the community by working several years on the board of Crestview Area Recreation Association. Mostly, he derived enjoyment from coaching children in basketball, baseball, and softball. He considered it a blessing to have coached his former players and took great pride in their accomplishments. Through the years, he would continue to brag about each child as if they were his own.
In 1998, the City of Crestview honored Jimmy's service to the community by dedicating and naming the softball fields at the Old Spanish Trail Park, "Jimmy W. Mynard Fields."
Jimmy has been a dedicated member of the First Methodist Church since moving to Crestview. He was a loyal member of Kiwanis for many years.
He had a stroke in 1990 that radically changed his life. In many ways, his illness prevented him from accomplishing the dreams and plans he had for himself and his family. Still, he persevered through this adversity to become the babysitter, coach, tutor, and overall cheerleader for his grandchildren.
He spent the last six and a half years in the nursing home at the Crestview Rehabilitation Center. Upon arrival, he quickly made friends, learned everyone's names, and tried his best to run the facility. His family is grateful for the love and care the staff at Crestview Rehab provided to their father, grandfather, and brother. The family is also grateful for the excellent care provided by the nurses and staff in the ICU at North Okaloosa Medical Center during the last week of his life.
The family is especially thankful to the staff and church family at First Methodist, along with his friends, Bill Spears and Charles Perry, for their frequent visits and steadfast ministering to Jimmy.
A time of visitation is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at First Methodist Church in
Crestview, Florida with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. All family, friends, and former players are welcome to attend and celebrate Jimmy's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to First Methodist Church of
