Wilma Josette Mills of Independence, Kansas, left this world on February 23, 2026, at the age of 75. She was born on April 4, 1950, and spent her life rooted in the Independence community she called home.
Wilma was a woman full of energy and heart. She loved to stay active and was rarely sitting still—there was always something to do and someone to take care of. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly her life. She adored them, stood up for them, and spoiled them every chance she got. Wilma was known for being feisty, especially when it came to protecting and loving her family. That fierce devotion was one of her greatest gifts.
She is survived by her sons, Ray and Tommy; her brother, Big Ray; and her cherished grandchildren: Buffy (David), Connor (Chayanne), Dawn (James), Christina (Nathan), and Wyatt. She also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren, who brought endless joy to her days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Ida Mills; her daughter, Teresa; and her sisters, Ann, Denise, and Christina.
Wilma’s love for her family will continue to live on in every story told, every laugh shared, and every memory held close. May her family find comfort in knowing that her strength, her fire, and her deep love will always be a part of them.
