Gerald Lewis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Millennium Funeral Home & Crematory - Okeechobee on Feb. 26, 2026.
Gerald Jerome Lewis, 83, of Lake Placid, FL died February 25, 2026, at his home with his family by his side.

He was born to the late W.T. and Edith Lewis on December 28, 1942, in Belle Glade, FL. He was a Navy Veteran who after his time in service, worked in the family business, Lewis' Truck Stop, until it closed. He then started a new career with Georgia Pacific, and after retiring, decided to do what he loved best, carpentry, until he couldn't anymore due to several strokes.

Gerald is survived by his brother, Keith Lewis (Penny), of Lake Placid, two of his three daughters, Marsha Green and Carey Lewis, both of Asheville NC, grandson Jordan Green (Carley James) of Salisbury NC, granddaughter, Dori Lee (Kyle Shawley) and loving family pet Itchy Renee Bell, of Lake Placid, grandson Zachary Matthews (Caitlin Harrison), of Sioux City, Iowa, and several great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Twyla, youngest daughter, Nicki Bell (James), a brother, W.D. Lewis, and two sisters, Reba Weaver and Faye Story.

A celebration of life will be held and announced at a later date.

The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude to the Good Shepherd Hospice team, especially his nurse Kristen, for the loving, kind, and respectful treatment of their Dad and Poppy!

Dear Family and Friends of Gerald Lewis,

I am writing to express my deepest condolences to you all during this difficult time.

I had the pleasure of meeting Gerald at the Famous Lewis Truck in Lake Placid back in 1974. Following that, from 1974 until 1977, we attended the First Assembly of God in Lake Placid together.

Another soldier in God's Army has made the journey home. I am certain that Jesus and Twila were standing by the gate to welcome him upon his arrival.

I will truly miss you, my friend.

With sympathy,

Larue O. (Rudy) Prescott
