Christine Hatfield Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Directors - Midland Chapel on Mar. 11, 2026.
Christine Ann Hatfield, 73 of Sanford, passed away peacefully at her residence on March 5, 2026. Born September 22, 1952, in Port Sanilac, the daughter of the late John DeVoogd and Thelma (Hoppenworth) DeVoogd of Carsonville.

On November 3, 1984, she married Dennis Allen Hatfield at the Hope Methodist Church in Hope.

Christine's academic pursuits led her to earn her CPA, a testament to her sharp mind and attention to detail. Christine's professional journey also included a cherished time as a bus driver for Meridian Public Schools, where she was known for her warmth and care for the students she transported.

Christine's passions were a reflection of her love for the great outdoors and the simple pleasures in life. She was happiest when camping on Drummond Island, where she spent many years creating memories with friends and family. An avid hunter and fisher, Christine found serenity in nature's beauty and thrived in the quiet moments waiting for a catch or the perfect shot.

Christine's creative spirit shone brightly in her hobbies. She was an expert card player, a baker of delightful treats, and a gardener whose blooms brought color to life. Christine enjoyed singing and helping with the clothes closet at her church, sewing, crocheting, making wedding and prom dresses, baby clothes, quilts, and stuffed animals. Her grandchildren will fondly remember the laughter and splashes shared while hanging at the pool, moments that will be cherished forever.

She is survived by her husband Dennis Hatfield of Sanford, sons, Jamie (Tracy) Moloy and Rick (Nicole) Hatfield, both of Midland, and daughters, Rebecca Boos of Midland, and Kimberly (Tracy) Smith of Sanford; 13 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, her mother Thelma, and her dog Muffin. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother Timothy DeVoogd. Christine's family wishes to extend their gratitude to MyMichigan Home Care for the loving care shown to her. A memorial service will take place 3 p.m. Saturday March 21, 2026, from the Meridian Church of God 2130 N. Meridian Rd. Sanford. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Dennis Hatfield.
