Carol "Cleo" Sammons Pearson passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Pruitt Health Peake in Macon, after an extended illness. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church, 209 S. Miller Street in Fort Valley. A graveside service will immediately follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, 720 S. Camellia Boulevard in Fort Valley with Rev. Joe McDaniel officiating.
Cleo was the daughter of the late Ira Gage Sammons and Carolyn Bowman Sammons of Fort Valley. She graduated from Fort Valley High School and attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School there. She enjoyed being a part of the Fort Valley Garden Club, hosting meetings in her home and working in her yard. Her favorite times were spent with her grandchildren that she dearly loved.
Survivors include her son, Sam Pearson and wife Molly Pearson and daughter, Shelly Hendricks and husband Dr. Mark Hendricks; grandchildren, Cassidy Pearson and Clay Pearson; step grandchildren, Matthew Hendricks and Ruthie Hendricks; sister in law, Sandy Sammons; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her brother, Early Mems Sammons II, and nephews, Early Mems Sammons III and Ira Cheney Sammons.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pruitt Health Peake for their care and friendship for so many years.
In lieu of flowers, family respectfully requests donations be made to Westfield School, 2005 US-41, Perry GA 31069, First Presbyterian Day School, 5671 Calvin Drive, Macon, GA 31210, or the charity of the donor's choice. Rooks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
