Betty Allard Murphy Obituary

SCHENECTADY – 

Betty Allard Murphy, 84, of Schenectady, died on Saturday, February 21, 2026. 

Betty was born on October 5, 1941, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of the late Hazel Howe and Clifford Thesenvitz. 

She married Robert Allard of Green Island, NY in 1960 and they returned to New York to raise their family in Green Island and Ballston Spa. 

Betty began working for various iterations of the Bell System in the 1960s and retired from Verizon in 2001. For several years Betty served as a tutor and mentor teaching young children the basics of reading and spelling. Survivors include three children: daughter Catherine Hall of Montana, sons Tod of New York and John Allard of Florida, her grandsons Noah and Jonah Allard, both of Schenectady, as well as her siblings Linda Marozick of Wisconsin and Lois Hegge, Richard and Douglas Theresnvitz of South Dakota. Also surviving is her former husband David Murphy of Schenectady. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

On Monday, March 9, 2026 relatives and friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, 2216 Rosa Rd, Schenectady, NY 12309, where a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 o’clock in the church. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
