Hazel Dingess Obituary

Hazel "Betty" Dingess

June 10, 1942 - March 6, 2026

On June 10, 1942, Robert Elmore Pixton and Josephine Catherine (Panholzer) Pixton welcomed their daughter, Hazel Betty Pixton into the world. Betty was an only child who was born raised in Washington, DC.

After graduating high school, she worked for the Department of Agriculture. She married Norman Harold Dingess in 1964. Together they raised their four sons in Stafford County, Virginia.

Around 1980, Betty began working at Woolworth. Later she worked for the Safety Office of the United States Marine Corps and retired in 2004.

As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1978, Betty was an avid genealogist. She helped many family members with their family history. For a time, she worked as a paid genealogist too.

Betty was a big supporter of the marching band. She enjoyed playing parcheesi and attending school events with her grandchildren. Betty was very generous, giving freely and expecting nothing in return. Everyone was welcome in her home, and she loved to sit and visit with anyone who dropped in.

On March 6, 2026, Betty passed away in Front Royal, Virginia. Betty is predeceased by her husband, Norman Harold Dingess who died in 1997.

She is survived by her sons: Robert Norman Dingess (Tabitha) of Mount Olive, NC; James Everett Dingess (Heather) of Mount Storm, WV; Thomas Allen Dingess of Tooele, UT; and David Adam Dingess (Elisabeth) of Front Royal, VA. At the time of her death, Betty had nine grandchildren, two step-granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren.

Betty Dingess was a pure living example what it means to be a true Christian. This is why she always had an aura of love around her for Christ; her family (here and across the veil); and for all her friends. While she will be missed here I am sure she will not be far from her family and when the time comes she will joyfully welcome you home personally. It has been a privilege for me to have experienced her part of my life
