Rocco Morabito Obituary

GENEVA -Rocco Paul Morabito

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rocco Paul Morabito, a talented hairdresser, gifted director of plays and musicals, and cherished friend who became family to everyone he met. Rocco passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on December 17, 2024.

Born on May 20, 1944, Rocco began his remarkable career as a hairdresser in Geneva, N.Y., where his natural talent for his craft quickly became evident. Seeking new challenges and opportunities, he moved to New York City, where his skill and creativity earned him the chance to style the hair of numerous celebrities. He was the personal assistant and stylist for Chita Rivera, who he loved like a sister. His artistry and professionalism made him a trusted name in the industry, and his vibrant personality left a lasting impression on everyone with whom he worked.

After building a successful career, Rocco brought his talents to Safety Harbor, Fla., where he opened Rocco's Hair Studio and became a regular feature on morning television, sharing his expertise and charm through stunning makeovers that inspired countless viewers.

Beyond his work in beauty, Rocco had a deep love for the stage. His uplifting direction of theater productions earned him admiration and respect in the community. With a keen eye for detail and an ability to inspire performers, he created productions that left audiences delighted.

To Rocco, his family was his world and every friendship became a bond as close as family. Whether he was preparing a feast in his kitchen, styling hair or behind the scenes at the theater, his warmth, humor, and unwavering kindness drew people in, and his ability to make anyone feel loved was truly extraordinary. His life was a testament to the power of connection, creativity, and compassion.

Rocco was predeceased by his parents; Rocco and Sarah (Massa) Morabito, sisters and their spouses; Dominica and Samuel Priano and their son; Samuel Priano Jr. and daughter; Donna Venuti, Carmela and Donald Greco, Grace and Joseph Martin and their son; Joseph Martin, Phyllis and Edward McLaughlin, Rose and Orville Tyrrell, Josephine and Joseph Kubarek, and brothers and their spouses; Lou and Jean Coblio Morabito, Carl F and Beverley Shaffer Morabito and their son; Carl Howard Morabito, and Salvatore (Sam) Morabito. He is survived by his sisters; Suzanne (Richard) Yates and Elizabeth (Gordon) Le Roy, many nieces and nephews, his former partner and lifelong best friend; Ron DeMarco, his dog Lucca, and a circle of very close friends, colleagues, and admirers too numerous to name.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 26,2024 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home, 181 N. Main St., Geneva, N.Y. Burial will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in section 20 in Glenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Rocco's memory to the American Heart Association or to Eight O'Clock Theater in Largo, Fla.

Rest in peace, Rocco. Though the curtain has fallen, your legacy of love and artistry will continue to shine brightly.

I first met Rocco in Florida when he would come down to do makeovers on TV. After seeing one of these, I called Rocco and asked if he could cut my hair when in town. Being the great person he was he answered "of course". Thus became a long dear friendship. As so many have said, there has never been a better friend than Rocco. As our friendship grew, I was fortunate to visit him when he would be in New York and spend time with his lovely family. Rocco helped me through a divorce and then years later through the death of my only child, Mike.
I last spoke with Rocco when he was in the hospital for the last heart Cath. He said he wasn't supposed to use the phone but wanted me to know he was better and hoped to be going home. So now I miss him and will continue to do so. My love to all the family. Prayers.

So sorry to learn of Rocco´s passing. I got to know him during his years in Geneva and he often made it a point to stop and say hello at my workplace when he was visiting. His smile was electric and he was truly a very kind and loving individual. You will be missed Rocco. My condolences to the family.
