Zelta Isgar Obituary

Zelta Joyce (Newton) Isgar, 79, passed away September 28 in Fountain Hills, AZ where she loved to be for warm winter weather and spring baseball. Zelta was born to Herbert (Buck) Newton and Freddie (Rose) Newton in Carlsbad, NM December 1, 1944. She was called "Little Buck" in her early years in NM where her family operated a dairy farm, also growing cotton, grain, a peach orchard and a pecan grove. In 1952, the family moved to Bayfield, CO. They continued operating a dairy, where Zelta helped with gardening and home canning and attended Bayfield schools.

Zelta started her home in Ignacio in 1960, marrying Robert Hott, where she graduated from high school and then Fort Lewis College while raising three children on the ranch. Her career in teaching soon began and it became her passion. At Ignacio High School she taught English, was cheer coach and directed drama. Summers she taught sewing for 4-H, raised huge gardens, home canned, and helped with the ranch. After marrying Don Isgar she continued to teach in Cortez where she retired after 34 plus years of teaching. Her love for family and her students was immeasurable.

Zelta was preceded in death by her husband, Don Isgar, her parents, her brothers Herbert Jr. (Bud), Brad, Carroll, Bill, and Pat. She is survived by her daughter Camy Hott Kinney (Danny) of Ignacio, sister Bettye (Bill) Powell of Aragon, NM, stepdaughter Heather Meeuwsen (Andy) of Oregon, stepson Tony Isgar (Penny) of Mississippi and 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, sons Troy Hott and Roger Hott, and her furry constant companion, Lizzy.

Services will be held on November 9 at 10 am at Pine Valley Baptist Church, 11942 Highway 172, Ignacio, CO at 10:00 a.m. with a meal to follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either St Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjudes.org) or Samaritan's Purse (https://www.samaritanspurse.org)

My sincere condolences to Cami Troy and Rodger. May the Lord be with you all and keep you strong during this time of loss. Your mom was a super sweet lady always with a smile and I'm grateful to her that she would give me a ride to school so I wouldn't have to take the bus.
Not only was she kind at heart but she always had kind words to share with me and my mom. She was truly a great lady. May she rest in peace.

I remember growing up with Hott's as neighbors. I Zelta worked hard to get her degree while still raising a family. I enjoyed meeting up with her later in life. She will be missed. My condolences to the family.
