Wilma Andrews Obituary

Former Durango resident Wilma R. Andrews died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, in Seaside, Ore. She was 93.

Mrs. Andrews was born to William C. and Vadis Morgan in January 1920 in Durango. She was the oldest of three children.

Her childhood was spent in Durango and Silverton, and she graduated from Silverton High School in the late 1930s.

Mrs. Andrews attended Fort Lewis College at the old Hesperus campus for a short time before she had to leave because of tight finances during the Great Depression.

In 1941, she married George Green in Aztec. The couple had three daughters together before the marriage ended in divorce.

She moved to Oregon in the 1950s. Mrs. Andrews finished her teaching degree at La Grande University, now Eastern Oregon University, as a nontraditional student in her 40s. She retired in 1983 after 28 years of teaching first grade in Burns, Ore.

In 1955, she married Floyd Andrews in Baker, Ore. The couple had two daughters together before the marriage ended in divorce.

In her spare time, she enjoyed music, reading, spending time with her grandchildren and traveling.

Mrs. Andrews was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Jenifer Andrews.

She is survived by her daughters Georganne Wood of Lakewood, Sharolyn Johnson of Phoenix, Carole Whitlock of Seaside, Ore., and Jeanette Harman of Milton, Fla.; sister, Edythrose Tincombe of Aurora; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A private service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
