William Steinberg Obituary

Alvin Texas- A former resident of Durango, Co for 15 yrs. Born Dec 17th, 1932 in Lake Forest, IL. Bill finished the final chapter of his long adventurous life on Nov 20th, 2017. A book that can surely be titled The Many Adventures of Bill, done his way of course. His adventure began as a child spending most of his childhood in Galveston TX. After graduating Ball High School in Galveston he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, Stationed in El Paso where he met and married Mary Lugo for 30 yrs. After his service he went on to attend Southwest Texas State, San Marcos earning a B.A in speech therapy, continuing after many years he returned to school to earn his Masters Degree in Special Education from Texas A&M. So proud to be a fighting Texas Aggie. As an educator he felt privileged to be able to teach all aspects of special education. Retirement left him to pursue his love for fishing, his lifelong dream to travel and tour Alaska and his hidden passion for writing short stories and poetry, actually being published twice. He never met a stranger and always left a friend probably because he always had a story or joke to tell. Preceded in death by his son Patrick Wm Steinberg he welcomed his long awaited reunion. Left to continue his story are daughters Cindy Brouillard & husband Barry Brouillard of Santa Fe TX and Terri Steinberg of Durango Co. son Gary Steinberg & Carol of Durango Co. His brother Bing Fretwell and Margret of Durango Co. 4 Grandchildren, 5 Great grandchildren most of all the sunshine's of his life Jessica, Jillian, and Lynleigh Griffith Katy, TX. And last but not least his most recent family the residents and wonderful caring, loving staff at Laurel Court in Alvin, TX where he was affectionately known as Bill "the candy man". He will surely be missed, but our love and his stories will continue till we meet again. A private memorial service will be held at a later date where he will be returned to his favorite fishing hole.
