William Nelson Obituary
"H" was born August 8, 1932 to W.H. Nelson Sr. and Mildred Nelson. He grew up in the Baker Community just outside Floydada. The youngest of four children he graduated Floydada High School in 1950. He married Loene Nelson (Williams) on November 21, 1952. H. was drafted into the Army in 1954 and was stationed in Baumholder Germany for 2 years. After his service, they moved back to Floydada, Tx to farm. In 1972 they moved to Bayfield, Colorado after purchasing an R.V. Park at Vallecito Lake. They moved back to Lubbock, Tx in 2006.
"H" a self-described "Tinkerer" was always fixing or building something. The joy of working with his hands led to a hobby of woodworking and carving. His favorite things to carve were cowboys and Santa Clauses and enjoyed showing his carvings at county fairs. He also enjoyed collecting and had an extensive collection of old hammers, screwdrivers and oil cans.
"H" is preceded in death by his wife Loene Nelson, parents, William Herschel "Gigs" Nelson Sr. and Mildred Nelson, sisters, Opal Hart, Lou Blodgett, and Jean McAnear.
He is survived by 2 sons, Dirk Nelson and wife Tish of Bayfield, Co., Kevin and wife Terry of Idalou, Tx; 2 daughters, Linda Huffmyer and husband Mark of Bayfield, Co., Leeta McClard and husband John of Centennial, Co.; 8 grandchildren, Ben Nelson, Matt Nelson, Eric Nelson, Neal Nelson, Lonny Nelson, Jessica Evans (Huffmyer), Jeff Huffmyer, Lauren McClard, 9 great grandchildren, and brother in laws, Elmer Dean Williams and wife Martha of Floydada, Leon Williams of Petersburg, Tx.

Today I drove to Idalou, and thought I need to go see my old neighbors. Found out you and Loene couldn't wait for me, and you guys left back in June a week apart. These neighbors were true Americans. We have missed them since they left the neighborhood, and I'm so sorry we missed the funerals. We are lucky to have some of his art work at home. We send our condolences to the family, and we know they never could be apart, so it's not surprising they had funerals one week apart. Being from a small town we had many great conversations. We thank you for our service H, and Becky, Andrew and I really miss you guys. RIP H & Loene

I was so sorry to hear about H. I have so many fond memories of your family and him from the many years I spent at my folk's farm implement business. He was always a kind man, and he and your mom raised a wonderful family. Praying for comfort for all of you.
