William Baird Obituary

William "Bill" Ray Baird, 75, of Ignacio, Colorado left us peacefully on January 06, 2022 in Durango, Colorado surrounded by family members and close family friends.

Bill was born on November 23, 1946 in Durango, Colorado. He attended Durango High School and then joined the United States Army in June of 1967 and served until March of 1970. Bill was a proud Vietnam Veteran and member of the American Legion. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Army he worked in the oilfields, drove truck, (both over-the-road and locally,) as well as operated heavy equipment for several contractors. Bill also served his community as a fire fighter and EMT in the early days of the Ignacio Volunteer Emergency Services program.

After retirement he spent his last years helping people in his community, flirting with the ladies and spending time, whenever possible, with his beloved grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Richard "Dickie" M. Baird and Frances "Freddie" L. McCoy-Baird as well as his brother, Richard "Rick" Baird and sister Janneth Baird-King and her husband Tommy King.

Bill is survived by two brothers, C.M. "Buzz" {Dena} Baird of Clayton, NM and Dale {Teresa} Baird of Ignacio, CO; by his son Scott {Michelle} Baird {daughter Cassie} of Corydon, IN and daughter Bobbi {son Eric} of Durango, CO as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial services will be held late in the spring or early in the summer at an outdoor venue; date and time to be determined. His passing has left a hole in the community and in many hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made, in William R. Baird's name, to the Wounded Warriors Project or to the charity of the giver's choice.

you risked your life for others each and every day,for such a path of a hero,. terrain where only the brave would go. seeing harsh things while during such good.now you deny that you were a hero , in fact its a title you quickly dismiss.but every day you proved it by the way you chose to live.
