Whitney Mir, 31 son of Darrell Mir and Nancy Negherbon left this world on November 22, while vacationing in Florida. Whit is survived by his sister Catherine Tucson, her husband PT, brother Thane, his wife Tynan, nieces Ananda and Aleigha, nephew Patrick, caretakers Rich Lombardo and Chrissy Thorpe, extended family members of Shane Zimmerman, Lindsay Sterns, Jenny Tolbert, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Whit was employed by
Home Depot.
Whit was born with a very rare neurological disorder known as alternating hemiplegia of childhood. This disorder limited his ability to function "normal" but through nothing less than sheer determination he learned to ride his bicycle, ski, snowboard, rock climb and cheer on his favorite team the Denver Broncos.
Whit was blessed in having friends and family members that accepted him as he was and a community that provided an atmosphere that allowed him to grow as an individual and for that we are truly grateful.
Whit had requested that his brain be donated to science so that "they could figure this thing out", always thinking of others. His wish was granted and cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers please send contributions in honor of Whit to the Holly House of Durango, Adaptive Sports of Durango, or the AHC Foundation www.ahckids.org
A gathering of family and friends to honor Whit will be held in the spring.
