Walter Sapp Obituary
Mr. Sapp was born April 19, 1947, in Durango to Alvin and Lula Sapp. He lived most of his life in La Plata County and graduated from Durango High School in 1967 and Fort Lewis College in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in Spanish.
Mr. Sapp worked a variety of jobs in the Four Corners. He loved books, reading and orchids, said his brother Allen Sapp. Together, the brothers grew the corsage orchid, Phalaenopsis, for 20 years. Mr. Sapp also enjoyed writing and wildlife.
Mr. Sapp is survived by brothers Allen Sapp of Durango, William Sapp of Pleasant Grove, Ala., and Harvey Sapp of Greenbrier, Tenn.; sisters Georgia L. Bowden of Floral City, Fla., and Elaine Sapp-Hayward of Lyman, Maine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, in the Sunshine Room at Sunshine Gardens West. A graveside service will follow at Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield.
