Virginia Bynum Obituary

Ignacio resident Virginia Hawkins Bynum died Monday, July 23, 2012, in Ignacio. She was 86.

Mrs. Bynum was born to Fawney and Grace Nelson on Aug. 15, 1925, in Gallup, N.M.

On Aug. 26, 1945, she married Hugh Elmer Bynum.

The Bynums settled down in Thousand Oaks, Calif., to raise their four boys. Mrs. Bynum retired from Bank of America in 1980 after a career of almost 30 years as a loans manager, primarily in the Oxnard, Calif., branch.

Mr. and Mrs. Bynum moved to Ignacio in 1981.

She was a member of Pine Valley Foursquare Church, where she served as treasurer and Sunday school teacher.

"Virginia enjoyed being part of the prayer-warrior team, spending time with family, gardening and playing the piano," her family said. "Virginia was a positive model for so many."

Mrs. Bynum was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Hugh E. Bynum; and son David G. Bynum.

She is survived by her sons Stephen Bynum of Ignacio, Robert Bynum of Bayfield and James Bynum of Oak Hills, Calif.; brother, Bud Nelson, of Las Vegas; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Pine Valley Foursquare Church, 1328 County Road 501 in Bayfield.
