Vincent Maloney Obituary

Vincent E Maloney Jr. peacefully passed on November 10, 2023, at the age of 94. He leaves an exemplary legacy in the hearts of all who knew him. Vince was a faithful husband for 69 years to his surviving wife Romelle Maloney, and a devoted father to their four children- Mark, Marilyn Heide, Jeff, and Tom. He was a loving grandpa to eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great, great, grand-child. Vince was a patriot, serving his country in the SeaBees and as a Naval Aviator in his second tour. The Stars and Stripes flew at his house every day. Vince competed collegiately in wrestling and football and excelled as a student-athlete at Colorado College and Colorado University where he graduated as a Civil Engineer. He enjoyed his career with the US Forest Service and later with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, but also made the most of retirement. Notably, Vince voluntarily tutored students at The Liberty School- an elementary school serving dyslexic and gifted students. Most importantly, Vince was a man of faith. He became a member of The River Church (formerly New Life Center) shortly after moving to Durango in 1971, and served in many capacities for 50 years until his health did not allow it. The life Vince led while on earth gives evidence to the reality of his relationship with his Lord, and gives his family and friends great comfort. The date for a memorial service is yet to be determined.

Vince was always so wonderful, pleasant, welcoming and kind to me, along with his lovely wife, Romelle. A Godly couple who were so easy to follow as guides and examples for Life: loving, gracious, personable, humorous, strong in their Faith in God and a joy to know. As long as you both were in the this world, there was still hope for mankind to see. A pleasure to take candy to, laugh with, visit and love! How lucky we all were to call you Friend. What a great Friend, Father, Husband, Christian with a warm and big loving heart!!
I miss you!! Becky

I met Vince through the Liberty School. He helped my son learn to read. When my son needed a math tutor in middle school Vince stepped up and the two of them had a wonderful time finding fun ways to use math in lessons and games. I´ll always have a soft spot in my heart for this wonderful gentleman and important mentor to my son.

We shall miss Vince profoundly. He taught my son middle school math, just as a neighbor and mentor. He also taught him to be a fierce competitor of cribbage.
