Vernabelle Carver Obituary

Vernabelle Carver was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on September 2,1934 and grew up on a farm in Climax, MI with her parents, Chester and Gertrude, and brothers Gerford "Red" and Richard. Vernabelle passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2022 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Gerford "Red" and Richard Carver, nephew John Carver and grandnephew Peter Carver.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews Jim Carver (Lori), Meg Carver, Beth Kramer (Jack), Bill Carver (Amy Hartline), Sara Carver (Doug Parmentier), Mark Carver (Gina) and Charmaine Carver Stewart. She is also survived by 14 grandnieces and grandnephews and 5 great-grandnephews.

Vernabelle worked at Michigan Bell Telephone Company for 40 years and was one of the old-fashioned operators where she would ask "what number please" and hand plugged in the cables to connect phones. When her father Chester passed, Gertrude and Vernabelle sold the farm on Carver Road and moved to Durango in 1994.

Vernabelle was a member of the Parkside Baptist Church in Durango and always had something thoughtful and encouraging to share. She loved family gatherings, watching wildlife, and bible studies.

Interment will be at the family plot in Climax, MI.

When we moved from Durango two years ago, Vernabelle was still quite active in our church and we enjoyed her quiet personality and sense of humor. She was always generous and could be counted on to help with the food for college ministry meals. One Saturday I had ridden my bicycle to church for a work day. When it was time to leave, Verna loaded my bicycle into the trunk of her car and gave me a ride up the hill. Her sweet disposition and kindness will be missed.

Vernabelle was one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. She was quiet, but when she chose to speak it was always encouraging and thoughtful. She will be dearly missed!
