Traci Berlin-Wyngaert Obituary

Durango resident Traci D. Berlin-Wyngaert died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at her home. She died the day before her 49th birthday. The cause of death is undetermined but probably was cardiac arrest.

Mrs. Berlin-Wyngaert was born to Harry and Joan Berlin on March 16, 1965, in Los Angeles. She grew up in L.A., where she graduated from high school.

She lived in San Francisco before moving to Sonora, Calif., to work with the U.S. Forest Service. She met Allan Wyngaert in Sonora, and the couple later moved to Roswell, N.M. They married April 20, 1993, in Tini, N.M.

After returning to school as a nontraditional student at New Mexico Highlands University, Mrs. Berlin-Wyngaert earned her bachelor's degree in 2005 and continued on to obtain her master's degree in social work in 2007. She worked in her field with the Roswell School District and at Eastern New Mexico University.

The Wyngaerts visited Durango in 2007, and Mrs. Berlin-Wyngaert decided that's where she wanted to live. They moved to Durango in 2012.

Mrs. Berlin-Wyngaert loved kayaking and skiing; she enjoyed most outdoor activities and walks around her neighborhood with her dogs and family.

"She crafted stained-glass works of art," according to her family. "Traci also enjoyed cooking and renovating and fixing up the family home – truly making their house a home. Traci collected and enjoyed her family and friends."

Mrs. Berlin-Wyngaert is survived by her husband, Allan Wyngaert of Durango; daughter, Whitney Wyngaert of Durango; mother, Joan Lipson of Los Angeles; sister, Michelle Giselle of Ione, Calif.; and brother, Greg Berlin of Reno, Nev.

A service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Annie's Orphans, 1630 County Road 214, Durango, CO 81303; Adaptive Sports Association of Durango, P.O. Box 1884, Durango, CO 81302; or a charity one's choice.
