Thomas Harlow Obituary

Durango resident Thomas (Sieminski) Harlow died after a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer Thursday, April 1,

2010, in Carmel, Calif., while attending a family gathering. He was 67.

Known as “Minski," “Tommy" or “Tomaso," he was born to Edmund and Jeannette (Zalewski) Sieminski on Sept. 19, 1942, in

Passaic, N.J. Mr. Harlow was of Polish descent. After his father died, his mother married James B. Harlow, who adopted

him.

Mr. Harlow attended Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Mass., from 1956 to 1960. He recently wrote a short history for the

school.

After graduating, he enrolled at Dartmouth College, but his studies were interrupted when he enlisted in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Harlow was stationed in Germany and returned to Dartmouth after his discharge. In 1967, he earned his bachelor's

degree in economics from the college.

Mr. Harlow began his career in the financial business as a stockbroker on Wall Street. During the 1970s, he moved to

Denver, where he lived for many years before moving to Durango in 1999.

On Sept. 10, 1988, he married Michelle Holland in Avon/Beaver Creek. Mr. Harlow's two youngest children, Casey Harlow

and Davis Harlow, are both still in high school.

“Tom's amazing wit and undying cheerfulness were always part of his daily life, especially during fishing trips, golf

games, celebrations and travel excursions," his family wrote. “He and wife Michelle made the most of the three-plus

years they had together since he was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer."

The Harlows' last trip was to Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and Hong Kong in February.

Mr. Harlow is survived by his wife of 21 years, Michelle Harlow, of Durango; sons Graham Harlow with the State

Department in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and Davis Harlow of Durango; daughters Molly Peeples of Asheville, N.C., and Casey

Harlow, who attends the Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Dalton Ranch Golf Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Mercy Health Foundation, 1010 Three Springs Blvd., Durango,

CO 81301.
