Teofilo Martinez Obituary

With great sorrow, the family announces the passing of Teofilo (Teo) Martinez. He lost his battle with heart failure on September 3, 2022, at Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver CO, at the age of 69.

A long-time resident of Ignacio CO, he is survived by siblings, Mercedes Jones, Pauline Martinez, Inez Martinez, and Bernard and Marcella (Chella) Martinez.

Nieces and nephews, Connie and Daniel Byers, Jamie Crawford, Angela, and Steve McFarland, Kimberly Molina and William Grassbaugh, Rodney Jones and Sean Crawford.

Born to Antonia and Antonio (Tony & Tony) Martinez of Durango CO, on November 30, 1952. He attended St. Columba School where he learned his sense of humor. He graduated from Durango High School where he learned his love of woodworking. He went to aeronautical school in Cheyenne Wyoming where he learned to fly, became a certified aircraft mechanic, and got his pilot's license in 1972.

He loved his family fiercely, and woodworking probably equally. His third love was snowmobiling and he spent every winter "sledding" with friend Mike Elkins. And when summer came and ruined their fun, he talked about nothing but snowmobiling all summer long.

He had a life-long love affair with food and purported at every party that his job was to make sure you didn't have any leftovers.

He excelled at growing fig trees in Colorado, crafting crazy canes, and collecting tools of every kind. He even tried his hand at fashion design with the custom-made pants that made living with his lifelong foot injury easier to manage.

His family knew him as a practical joker who always had a joke to say or a prank to pull.

He was known for his personal colloquialisms, which he loved to repeat often. When told something was "gluten-free" he would always ask if you had something that was "glutton free."

Teo is predeceased by, mother Antonia Martinez, father Antonio Martinez, brother Eugene Martinez, and sister Marcella Crawford.

A rosary will be held at 11:00 am, October 15, 2022, at Sacred Heart Church. Service to follow at 12 pm. The interment will take place at Greenmount Cemetery. Reception following at the Sacred Heart Hall.
