Taylor Folmar Obituary

Durango resident Taylor Alan Folmar died Wednesday April 17, 2013, at his home. He was 26. The cause of death is under investigation.

Mr. Folmar was born to Kenneth and Rene Folmar on Aug. 2, 1986, in Midland, Texas.

He graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School and attended Fort Lewis College. Mr. Folmar was a jack-of-all trades at Randy's Restaurant from 2005 until it was sold in February 2013. He waited tables, tended bar and was a chef.

As a drummer, Mr. Folmar helped take the MCHS Marching Band to Nationals in 2005. He had been a member of Durango's hockey community since 2006, playing goalie on six different teams in the area.

"Taylor loved United States history, music, hockey and reading," his family said. "He had an adventurous spirit and a passion for the Rockies. He loved taking long camping trips, visiting new places and learning about new cultures. He was a devoted Colorado Avalanche fan."

Mr. Folmar is survived by his sister, Rachel R. Folmar, of Farmington; father, Kenneth Folmar, of Yantis, Texas; grandparents Virginia and Ken Folmar of Yantis and Robert and Shirley Taylor of Eugene, Ore.; one niece and one nephew; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013, at the Chapman Hill Hockey Rink in Durango.
