Susan Griggs Obituary

Bayfield resident Susan North Griggs died from an ongoing struggle with multiple sclerosis and breast cancer Sunday, June 8, 2014, in Bayfield. She was 55.

Mrs. Griggs was born to Warren J. and Leah N. (Raney) North on Jan. 11, 1959, in Cleveland. She grew up in Friendswood, Texas, and graduated from Friendswood High School.

In 1982, she married David Griggs, her childhood sweetheart, in Texas. The couple had two children together, living in Huntsville, Texas, before moving to Bayfield in 1987.

Shortly after moving to Bayfield, Mrs. Griggs became a real estate agent for Bayfield Realty, where she worked for several years.

While living in Bayfield, Mrs. Griggs earned a degree in accounting from Fort Lewis College in 1991.

An avid horsewoman and photographer, she was never found without her camera, her son Jesse Griggs said.

"She was very giving, unselfish and detail-oriented," he said.

Mrs. Griggs is survived by her husband, David Griggs, of Bayfield; sons Joshua and Jesse Griggs, both of Bayfield; sister, Mary North, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; and brother James North, of Portland, Oregon.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Christ the Rock Church, 5401 Hood Mesa Trail, in Farmington. The time of the service has not yet been determined.
