Sue Marshall Obituary

Sue Giles Marshall

June 9, 1930 - November 24, 2014

June 9th, 1930 must have been a beautiful day. That was the day Sue Ellen Giles was born to Ralph and June Giles in Watseka, IL. Sue was a lovely child and thanks to her loving parents she has been a beautiful person and my wife of 62 years.

Sue Graduated as Salutatorian from Watseka High School in 1948, attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville, TN for two years, and then graduated with a major in Radio and Television from Michigan State College in 1952. She married Kenneth Marshall after college, and became a Navy wife with Ken until 1955; raised three children, and gained a Masters degree from Bowling Green State University in the early 1970's.

Sue practiced Speech Pathology with children, and in hospitals in Toledo, Ohio, and in Durango, Colorado where she worked with Head Start children, then with stroke patients and closed head injured patients in both hospitals there.

Sue was active with AAUW, the Reading Club of Durango, PEO chapter FX, sang in the choir with the Durango Choral Society, and in the First United Methodist Church choir.

The Marshall's were early residents of Falls Creek Ranch in Durango since 1979 and Sue was active in tennis circles and an avid hiker and camper. Sue and Ken became "snowbirds" and spent winters in Ponce Inlet, Florida starting in 2003.

Sue is survived by husband Kenneth Marshall, son Steven Marshall (Elizabeth Kaplan), son Benjamin Marshall (Alisann), daughter Elizabeth Marshall (Kurt Wohnsen), sister Gloria Remy (Robert), brother David Giles (Alice), four granddaughters, Hope Kaplan Marshall, Laurel Kaplan Marshall, Andrea Marshall, Natalie Marshall, step-grandsons Seth Wohnsen (Kelly), Ry Wohnsen (Jen Villalobos), Noel Skoog (Monika) and five great grand children.

Sue's last days of life on earth were in the loving care of family in beautiful Florida Hospital Hospice Care in Daytona Beach, Florida.

A memorial service, followed by a luncheon reception, will be held at The First United Methodist Church in Durango, Colorado at 11:00 am, Saturday January 3, 2015 to celebrate Sue's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to honor Sue's life may be made to First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive, Durango, CO 81301; Mercy Health Foundation Hospice Residence Fund, 1010 Three Springs Blvd., Durango, CO
