Stephen Krueger Obituary

Stephen Emil Krueger, 75, of Taos, New Mexico, passed away peacefully in Durango, Colorado on September 27, 2023. Steve was born on March 1, 1948 in Michigan City, Indiana to Emil Krueger and Lois Krueger (Sell), where he spent his childhood.

As soon as he could, Steve left Indiana and moved out west, living in various mountain towns until moving his family to Durango, Colorado in 1981. Steve operated a general contracting business building custom homes in and around Durango. He later moved to Taos, New Mexico to enjoy the outdoors and the artistic qualities of the town.

Steve loved the outdoors, specifically fishing and hunting. He was most happy fly fishing on small, backcountry streams or hunting small game and waterfowl with his children. Steve was also know for his love of motorcycles; usually owning more than one at a time. He loved riding twisting mountain passes on a BMW or Norton motorcycle. Steve was a great father and friend, and will be missed everyday.

He is survived by his sons: Scott Krueger (Becca Krueger) of Boulder, Colorado and Doug Krueger (Shellie Krueger) of Durango, CO; his daughter Courtney Roseberry (Jesse Roseberry) of Mancos, Colorado; his three grandchildren, Ada, Riley, and Nolan; and his two brothers John Krueger (Palm Springs, California) and Jeff Krueger (Michigan City, Indiana).

A small memorial will be held in the spring/summer of 2024.

My brother Steve was four years older than me. He taught me many things, I especially appreciate his teaching me to play baseball and coaching me to be on the All-Star team as a kid. He was a great protector with the notable exception of when he and his friends used me as a tackling dummy to hone their football skills. As a teenager Steve researched and planned all of our family
summer vacations which were all fishing trips in Wisconsin and upper Michigan. As young men we had a lot of great times in the outdoors fishing shooting and camping. He was a far better fisherman than me, I used a worm and sinker in spots where the fish hung out in the river and he would fly fish in the rapid white water and caught most of the fish. He taught me carpentry skills and started my career in construction. We both ended up being building contractors. We always enjoyed spending time together but due to the distance between Durango and Lake Tahoe we didn´t see each other as much as we would have liked, however we stayed in touch by phone and stayed up-to-date with our lives and our children´s activities. I´m really gonna miss him.
