Skye Buswell Obituary

Durango resident Skye Colleen (McMahon) Buswell died from injuries suffered in a car accident Thursday, May 16, 2013, after being airlifted to St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver. She was 33.

Mrs. Buswell was born to David and Jan McMahon on June 11, 1979, in Lovell, Wyo. Her family moved to Durango in 1989. She attended Florida Mesa Elementary, Smiley Middle and Durango High schools before going on to earn her GED diploma.

Mrs. Buswell lived and worked in Oklahoma City for several years before coming back to Durango, where she met the man her family called "the love of her life," Nathan Buswell, in 2005. The couple married Aug. 2, 2008, in Maine.

A longtime employee of Phillips Electric, Mrs. Buswell had more recently worked for Consolidated Electrical Distributors. She enjoyed being a mom, her family said.

"We cannot imagine our lives without her vibrant presence," her family said. "Her passionate spirit was evident in every area of her life – she was never one to miss out on anything life had to offer and approached it all with joy and incredible energy. The world has lost some of its sunshine and beauty without her."

Mrs. Buswell was an organ donor.

"It softens our unspeakable loss just a bit to know that even as we mourn, someone else is given a second chance at life," her family said.

Mrs. Buswell is survived by her husband of almost five years, Nathan Buswell, of Durango; 3-year-old son, Cody Buswell, of Durango; mother, Jan Westberg, of Durango; father and stepmother, David and Kimberly McMahon, of Oklahoma City; sister, Brooke Peterson, of Durango; brother, Sean McMahon, of Durango; stepsisters Rachel Curtis and Emily Curtis, both of Oklahoma City; and two nephews.

A memorial celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the River Church, 860 Plymouth Drive in Durango.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Skye Buswell Memorial Fund through First National Bank of Durango, P.O. Box 2910, Durango, CO 81302.
